Third Year Film: I Am Dyslexic

I am Dyslexic is the concept of 3rd year student Mads Ogaard. Mads wanted to use the animation skills that he has learned at Falmouth University to help raise awareness of the isolation that dyslexic students can feel. The animation centres on the struggles of his protagonist as he negotiates the perils of the education system, beautifully visualised as a metaphorical mountain of books. The film also highlights the importance of friendship and support and Mads hopes that his work will help dyslexic students to realise that they are not alone.

The film is a 2D/3D hybrid which uses 3D CGI backgrounds, modeled on Maya Autodesk,  combined with 2D characters, animated using TV Paint. The CGI sets are created by third year students Ben Langham and Calum Meyer. Mads and his team wanted the film to be able to communicate to an international audience and to this end it is deliberately free of dialogue. The musical soundtrack for the film has been specially composed by musician Mari Hajem.

I Am Dyslexic is co-directed by Mads together with fellow student Katie Wyman, and is being produced by a team of dedicated second and third year students.

We look forward to seeing the final film in a couple of months time.
